13th November- 21st November- STORYBOARD

Alongside the time myself and Annabelle created and produced all the Treatment for our music video, Lucy and Kathryn began creating and drawing the storyboard for our music video. Lucy took the role of drawing the frames and writing all the information below the frame which included what was going on in the shot, the time scale and the type of shot and lighting to be used; Kathryn took the role of main illustrator for the storyboard. The purpose of the storyboard is extremely important to the process as it allows us to organise all of the shots within the music video and makes it a lot easier and organised when it comes to filming.

In order to ensure that all the shots would match to the music Lucy listened to the song repetitively to list down times of each frame and ensure the correct numbered frame alligned correctly to the lyrics and specific time in the song. By producing the storyboard it meant Lucy and Kathryn held most of the creative control in regards to what would happen within the music video however, we discussed all ideas they made and as a team we all had an active part in thinking of the initial concept and ideas that could happen within the music video which can be viewed on my initial ideas page. The storyboard was a long process as we produced 54 frames in total but we felt the more detailed and precise our storyboard was the more beneficial it would be for us in regards to filming and the length of each frame. By being precise it also made it easier for us when it came to creating the filming schedule and also meant we knew what characters, props, lighting, costumes, settings etc we needed for each frame. As previously mentioned Kathryn carried out the majority of the drawings whilst Lucy wrote all the information below all 54 frames of the storyboard and listened to the song to ensure the storyline within the storyboard was alligned to the lyrics of the song; however, once Lucy completed this she worked alongside Kathryn drawing the frames as we found this to be the most time consuming element.

Once myself and Annabelle finished on the 20th November with the treatment we both helped with the drawing of the frames so that the storyboard was finally finished as of the 21st November; Annabelle also started the filming and picture taking of the storyboard on the 21st so that we could start the process of editing and constructing the animatic.

21st November- 5th December 2014- ANIMATIC

On completion of the storyboard we then went on to create the animatic for our music video using the software Sony Vegas Pro.

Annabelle filmed and took pictures of the storyboard to use for our animatic using the camera and then myself and Kathryn took a leading role in the editing and animatic process by putting all the shots together and alligning the frames in time with the music.

The main purpose of the animatic was to give a true insight in to what our final filming will look like in regards to our different frames alongside the song. The animatic also allowed us the chance to spot any alterations that may have to be made so that the frames tied in to the music; we did find the animatic extremely beneficial as we did find some frames were more suited to different places of the song and allowed us to know where in the song lip synching was required. We not only changed the sequence of some shots but there was also frames that were a repeat of a previous shot. Our animatic clearly shows our concept in regards to the narrative and performance based elements as well as the storyline within the different frames and our idea of flashbacks works well in time to the song.

Our finished animatic which includes all 54 frames of our storyboard can be viewed below in the form of a video with Christian Smith's Bruises track in the background to give an indication as to what our finished product will look like and the way in which it will be assembled.
