Friday 13th and Monday 16th June 2014

During Friday's lesson in addition to learning about and familiarising myself with Dyer's Theory I also started my powerpoint presentation on my favourite genre of music- Pop Rock; I continued this piece of work during my own time on Monday 16th June and it contains the definition of the genre, the history and my favourite artists and bands within the genre with a brief history and background knowledge about them, their record label, their manager and their most popular and recognisable songs. I think the Pop Rock genre is extrememly popular as it brings something alternative to the music industry that is grabbing and different to all other types of music. Pop Rock can involve different styles of music as bands and artists can still be extremely different regarding the production of their music but still be classified in to the same genre; for example some Pop Rock artists in particular bands prefer to use a variety of instruments to create a fuller sound and make the tone and beat of the music more catchy but some other artists, mainly solo artists have a preference of being diverse and having some songs that may be basic and plain by having their voice purely representing their genre or use a small amount of instruments some of which may not have a loud bassy sound unlike guitars and drums; however, similarly to bands, solo artists still often use computer sounds and effects as well as a combination of instruments to create a fuller sound that is a true representation of not only the genre they're classified in but them as a person and the effect/influence they wish to achieve on people.
